Bergara Premier MgMicro Lite

Backcountry rifles get judged by what they weigh at the end of a long climb, and the MgMicro Lite is the first rifle we’ve carried that actually feels like it was built around that fact. At 5.8 lbs in its lightest configuration, it’s light enough that you stop noticing it on your shoulder, and it doesn’t read like a compromise when you get behind it. The ATOM magnesium chassis weighs just 14 oz for a short action, and with the carbon fiber buttstock and grip fitted, the whole system comes in at about 27 oz. The folding stock also shortens it down to something very packable.

The CURE carbon barrel is the other half of that weight savings, and it hasn’t cost any performance. It’s an 18″ barrel wrapped in unidirectional high-modulus carbon fiber, and Bergara says groups are tighter than comparable steel barrels in the same weight class. It’s threaded 5/8×24, so it’s ready for a suppressor without extra work. The two-lug Premier action runs a floating bolt head for consistent lug contact, and the nitrided bolt parts have kept the action smooth. The TriggerTech trigger breaks clean with no creep, which matters most when you’re short of breath after a climb.

Small details round it out. The chassis has a built-in bubble level and a machined Arca-compatible dovetail in the forend, so it sits steady on a tripod or rest, and the carbon buttstock has an adjustable cheek rest, limb-saver pad, and M-LOK slots. At $3,099 for .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor and $3,149 for the 6.5 PRC, it’s priced as a premium ultralight, and for mountain hunters counting every ounce, it’s built to justify that.
